The Music of Norm Drubner

About Norm Drubner

A lawyer and real estate developer turned singer, Norm Drubner’s newfound career began when driving home from dinner with his friend, Mark Snow, a renowned composer for film and television. When Drubner was singing along to the CD of American jazz trumpeter and vocalist Chet Baker, Snow remarked on his nice jazz voice. In fact, he thought Drubner sounded just like Chet Baker and suggested that he make his own CD. Laughing, saying that he only sings in the shower, Drubner was convinced to give it a try. With no musical training, having never played an instrument, read music, or even joined the glee club in high school, Drubner found himself in a recording booth with earphones. In one day, he recorded 10 songs chosen from a selected group of standards from The Great American Songbook, producing his first album, “I’m Old Fashioned,” in 2010, just a few weeks after his ride home with Snow.

In a span of 10 years, instead of playing golf, Drubner has been working with Musical Director Nick Bariluk, thanks to Snow’s introduction. Together, they have made 11 subsequent albums, which also include a variety of selections from The Great American Songbook. Clean and simple arrangements emphasize not only the lyrics but also Drubner’s ability to communicate real feelings and emotions. With each tune, he makes it his own, utilizing his personal affection and experiences for each song to drive every performance. Drubner just completed a new album with a Bossa beat, “I Have Dreamed,” which will be released soon.
